Praise be! It’s Friday!!! This week was a tough one for me, maybe because of the short week last week? Or maybe because I’m on day 25 of my Whole 30, which means one more sober weekend for this girl! Now for some outfits of the week

Office Ballerina // This dress borders on too fancy for a casual work atmosphere. But it’s really all about assessors. Pair this drop-waisted dress with black tights, a cardigan, and a giant scarf to make it more laid back.

Pattern Melting Pot // Stripes? Check. Plaid? Check. Houndstooth? Check. Cognac? Check. This mash-up screams comfy and cozy. Makes days at the office feel a little more like lounging on the couch.

Wintertime Yuppie // I got this coat at Old Navy for $15! Isn’t that insane? It’s not very thick, so you gotta save this bad boy for the warmer colder days. By that I mean any day over 35 degrees with at least a little sunshine.

Olive You // Get it, like “I love you.” Adding this statement vests can bring your basic tunic + leggings combo to the next level. I love how it looks with a pop of red!

Weekend Recap Vol 21

Hi guys! Happy Tuesday, I’m still thinking about the weekend hahaha.

On Saturday twin and I met some of our girlfriends at the local indoor farmers market. I’m a frequent market goer during the summer months, but it was my first time at the indoor one. While the number of choices are a little smaller than the outdoor market, there are still some really good produce! The shining stars in my eyes were the giant sweet potatoes (literally the size of a 5 month old kitten), these dried pears (no sugar or preservatives added!), and these whopping honeycrisps.

My dad surprised the twin and I for an impromptu brunch (he works in the city). So nice being able to chill with papa bear while scarfing down a chorizo breakfast bowl!

After lunch fiance and I moseyed over the the Warby Parker location in Lincoln Park. It was surprisingly fun to try on all the different frames they have in store. Even if I don’t wear glasses… We were out and about because of a super special surprise that I’ll blog about later.

No weekend would be complete without cat cuddles! On Saturday we followed Luna’s lead and had a chill movie night with some friends. Made the mistake of watching a horror movie and now I’m convinced aliens are entering our apartment at night. LOL JK JK… But kinda.

Sunday is my errands day, what about you? Gym, grocery shopping, and meal prep take up most of my Sundays.

Whole 30: Week 3

Hello friends! I’m three weeks in to my Whole 30 challenge, and it feels kinda like this is never going to end. I’ve come to the point where I hate eating. It’s not fun, it’s literally just a means to an end AKA not being hungry. I kind of assume that’s what this diet is supposed to do to you, but come on.

Food 

Breakfasts: I couldn’t get myself to meal prep another egg dish. So I decided to live the scrambled egg life and just ate before work. I’m getting REAL sick of eating eggs. For real guys. The struggle is very real.

Lunches: Chicken was on the menu again. I didn’t make any sweet potatoes for the week because of my epic fails the week prior. I stuck to chicken, bell peppers, carrots, grape tomatoes, and unsalted nuts. Living the high life over here. BUT my dad did make a surprise trip into the city and we got brunch (pictured above).

Dinners:  I tried an amazing way of cooking chicken. The key is BRINING! Life changing advice really, it makes the chicky so moist and delicious. We also had crock pot steak tips, ground turkey with avocado, and eggs & bacon.

Feelings

Peaks:

  •  Guys, I feel like my stomach is the flattest it’s ever been! I can kinda see my lil abs trying to peak through.
  • My workouts continue to be really good, especially my runs!
  • Clear skin is back, my sleeping is great (I woke up at 7:30am on Saturday all on my own), and my clothes are all fitting on the loose side.

Pits: 

  • I felt a bit bloated over the weekend, not sure why because my diet has remained super consistent.
  • I just want some popcorn and alcohol, is that too much to ask for.
  • 100% over food. Like even the idea of non-compliant food feels very “meh.” What’s even the point of eating? I’m over it, but I still get hungry so I guess I have to keep eating.

I only have 8 days left, LEGGO.

Happy Friday guys! We finally made it. Is it just me, or do shortened weeks somehow feel longer than normal ones? Maybe it’s the expectation of the week going by really quickly, either way it sucks.

This week was all about comfy & cozy with a side of stripes!

I love this asymmetrical free people top. It looks great when paired with some simple black leggings, boots, and a colored cardigan! How pretty is the little pendant that Logan got me for Christmas? Coral + turquoise just go together, you know?

I really loved this combination. My suede skirt + simple black tee + oversized scarf. It was a perfect blend of warmth and style. Sorry I can’t really link any of my outfits because I mostly shop at second hand stores (my favorite is Crossroads).

We finish the week out with a simple striped tee paired with jeans and ballet flats for a pop of color.

Weekend Recap Vol. 20

Hey homies! I know we’re a little ways past Monday (praise be!), but the long weekend threw off my normal recap posts. Since I’m doing the Whole 30 Challenge, I haven’t gone out at all (no alcohol + arctic Chicago temps = chill weekends).

This chill time has lead to some serious cooking by the twin and I (okay let’s be real, fiance is still owning the whole cooking front, but I’ve definitely attempted). We’ve been having some weekend dinner parties, and last Saturday we had zoodles with a sloppy joe inspired meat sauce. You can find the recipe here.

On Sunday, Logan and I ventured downtown to do a little Christmas present returning/shopping. Chicago residents, if you still haven’t been to the new(ish) Uniqlo downtown you should make a trip of it. They have a really cool Starbucks with a nice view of Michigan Ave, and really neat artwork on their top floor.

On Monday morning some friends and I visited a local bread shop (I oogled at their pretzel croissants while sipping my herbal tea). It’s always so nice to venture outside the house on weekend mornings and catch up on life happenings with some of my favorite people.

Monday was MLK Jr. Day, which meant the four of us had the day off work! It was especially cool because all of the city’s museums were free for Illinois residents. We played tourists and checked out some of the new additions at the Art Institute of Chicago! I really loved the modern wing. Surrealism is my favorite genre of art, *fun fact* my grandpa was an amazing amateur surrealist painter.

Whole 30: Week 2

Whole 30 Week 2

Hello friends! I’m two weeks in to my Whole 30 challenge, and it feels kinda like two years…

Food 

Breakfasts: I tried another egg bake this week. This time I omitted the asparagus, and added in some lean ground turkey. Let me tell you, it was great! But, I did make the mistake of using paper cups that basically became one with my little egg muffins (pictured above). Hard to peel, but easy to devour. For the weekend I’ve been living off paleo oatmeal (pictured above). Really don’t give two shits if this falls under the whole “sex with your pants on” category. It’s just banana + 2 eggs.

Lunches: Chicken and sweet potatoes were on the menu this week. I made a huge batch of frozen chicken in the crock pot on Sunday night (chicken + tomatoes + onion), and it lasted me the entire week. I used lettuce as a faux tortilla. PS I failed at making sweet potato fries not once, but twice. Also, I tried to do the thing where you cook a sweet potato in the microwave and managed to eff that up as well…

Dinners:  Lots of variations in dinner this week. Except I HAD to repeat paleo nachos because it was so delicious, I also had breakfast for dinner one night (my fav)! Meats: pork, ground beef, chicken, and ground turkey all made appearances as well + lots of veggies (duh)!

Feelings

Peaks:

  •  Guys, I feel like my stomach is the flattest it’s ever been!
  • I tried on all of my summer shorts that were a little tighter than I would have liked this summer, and guess what? They’re loosey goosey on me now #nonscalevictory!
  • My sister got a food processor and we made our own nut butter! It’s my new favorite, although I must admit that they’d taste better with just a touch of sweetness (agave, honey, anything).

Pits: 

  • I got a giant ass pimple
  • My period came 2 whole days early (TMI?),
  • and I really really really wanted alcohol.

We made it to Friday! I hope your week was a good one, pretty slow one for me. I’ve been in a bit of a weeknight rut, lots of TV and blog reading. Do you guys do anything fun to spice up your week nights?!

If I had to define my style I’d say boho hipster. I really love flowy printed tops (stripes, floral, geometric, I love em all).

I absolutely love these Tom’s Wedges my parents got me for Christmas. They’re the easiest “heeled” shoe to walk in, and are SUPER light.

It’s been absolutely freezing here in the Windy City. I’m talking negatives! It’s been harping on my usual go-to style of tights, dresses, and skirts.

4 Feelings While Watching the Golden Globes

Just an FYI, I have a lot of thoughts and feelings and opinions about a lot of things. This is my space to express said opinions. That being said, continue reading if you so desire to know about my thoughts on the Golden Globes.

1. Envy

Oh my god. That dress, those earrings, the makeup! Please gimme all of it, pleaseeee. I don’t know where in the world I would wear any of the MANY stunning gowns I saw the other night, but I know I want, nay, NEED them.

2. Disbelief

How on earth is your arm the size of my index finger? I am not trying to body shame in any sense of the word, but I can tell you that these actresses (not actors), have all lost about 20 pounds in the last 5-10 years. Which would be cool if they needed to lose weight for health reasons, but they all look bony, malnourished, bobble heads. And they were just as beautiful as they are now.

3. Anger

Why the f*ck do I support the entertainment industry? An industry that demands a woman’s weight remain as close to double digits as humanly possible? I don’t blame the women who are clearly victims of a thin-obsessed culture that is perpetuated by…well I don’t know who is behind it. You? Me? “The Man?” It’s clearly not one person, and I’m really hoping we, as an entire society of human beings, shift our beauty ideals away from starvation and towards healthy weights and behaviors.

4. Self-loathing

This brings me to my final point. After watching a solid hour of red carpet coverage where women were praised for their tiny bodies, I couldn’t help but feel like my own 5’4″ 140 pound frame was inadequate. That I, a strong, bright, fit woman should dwindle my weight down to as much as humanly possible. It’s this feeling that worries me most. Also, these 21 year olds have more money now than I will ever have in my entire life on Earth… Cool. 

On a lighter note: S/O To Brie Larson and her very well deserved win for Room!

So as we can both derive from my feelings, I should probably stop watching Award Shows.

But, when are the Oscars…?

Whole 30: Week 1

Whole 30 Week 1

Hello friends! I’m one week into my Whole 30 challenge and I’m feeling pretty great 🙂

Food 

Breakfasts: I made a really nasty egg bake that I tried eating the first 2 days, but it was so disgusting I had apples with almond butter the rest of the work week. It was nice to have time during the weekend to make scrambled eggs, avocado, chicken sausage (whole foods) and honeydew

Lunches: I cooked up a giant batch of grilled chicken and sweet potatoes to bring to work. I also had some carrots, peppers, and cherry tomatoes. I’m pretty tired of that, so I’m going to switch it up this week.

Dinners:  For protein I had chicken with salsa, fried eggs, steak, shrimp, and ground beef. Veggies consisted of zucchini, potatoes (really more of a carb), broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, and mushrooms.

Feelings

Peaks: This week wasn’t too hard, maybe because it was the first week but the plan seems like it’ll be pretty manageable. I never went through the “detox” phase #blessed, and I always felt pretty full between meals. As a constant snacker, this was a big win for me. My workouts were also pretty solid, and I’ve been completing my usual 2.5-3 mile runs with ease, not sure if it’s related to whole 30, but I’ll just say that it is. Also my stomach is already looking flatter to me (placebo effect?).

Pits: Not gunna lie, I had some cravings, but I always have cravings that I’m pretty good at ignoring. I really missed bread and cheese sticks. This weekend sans drinking was a bit sad (I MISS YOU WINE!), but my sister and her boyfriend are doing it too, which definitely helps #StrengthInNumbers.

I’ve already gone grocery shopping for week 2, and I’m excited to try some new recipes. Can’t wait to see how I feel post week 2 (praying I avoid the “bloated” phase.

Hello 2016

Hi Friends! We’re one (work) week into 2016, and I’m feeling pretty damn good. I’m on day 6 of  Whole 30 and it’s going well. I thought I’d share a couple New Years resolutions. I know it sounds cliche, but even though it’s really just another month, there’s definitely a cleansing feeling that revolves around a ~new year~. Don’t you think? I also want to share some things I’m looking forward to in 2016!

Resolutions Goals:

  1. Complete the Whole 30 challenge
  2. Grow up, and stop making vodka diets my drink of choice
  3. Read 1 book a month. Not Harry Potter…
  4. MAKE more things (food, crafts, memories)
  5. Take candid pictures/bring my Nikon places
  6. Eat more veggies
  7. Assert myself #sorrynotsorry

Looking Forward To
