Currently Craving: Spring Jackets

CC_Spring

Happppyyyyyy Hump Day! We’ve made it mid-week and what better way to celebrate this accomplishment than perusing some delicious spring jackets? Of all outerwear, I would say Spring has some of my favorite options.  I absolutely love all the jacket trends that are surfacing this year, and I can’t wait to get my grubby little paws over them hahaha.

  1. Bomber Jackets are all the rage this season. It’s pretty easy to see why. These little dudes just scream varsity chic, and I love the Navy blue option.
  2. A twist on the classic trench has left me drooling. I absolutely love the drapery of this jacket.
  3. It’s always good to have a bit of a wild card option. This jacket has a loud print, but the classic colors save it from being an eyesore.
  4. Similar to number 2, but a little lighter/more casual. This number would pair perfectly with your simple swing dresses. Long live drapery!
  5. I already have a classic jean jacket that I’m obsessed with. But I’m pretty sure I need this white version to really complete my spring jacket wardrobe.

Which jacket is your favorite?

Weekend Recap Vol. 29

Hello lovelies & happy Monday. I hope you were able to do something a little special for the holiday weekend (whether you celebrate Easter or not). And by little something I obviously mean I hope you ate some egg-themed candies (lookin at you Cadbury eggs).

image

On Friday my mom stayed the night with Fiance and I. She stayed over because the next morning she was nice enough to drive us to our very first wedding tasting! We didn’t know what to expect at all, but I was pleasantly surprised with how it went. The three of us were seated in a room that was filled with wedding decor. We saw table settings, pretty plate chargers, and lots of linen samples! But clearly, the best part of the event was the food tasting. Our tongues were blessed with three apps (pictured above), 2 entrees, and 2 sides. After tasting this food, I’d say I’m pretty pumped for our wedding so I can feast hahaha.

image

After our tasting, my mom drove fiance and I back to our home town so we could stay the night and celebrate Easter with the rest of the fam. Since we had the rest of the day left, Logan and I hit up the outlet mall! Talk about steals.

The rest of the night was filled with tacos, wine, and good conversation.

Easter morning we were greeted with a bowl full of goodies! My mom is always so thoughtful when it comes to little holiday treats. Thanks mom!

Since my family is small (5 + fiance) and my extended family is scattered throughout the country, we often celebrate holidays with a nice family meal. This Easter was no exception. Instead of the traditional lunch we usually have, my mom and dad prepared a baller brunch for us kids. I mean check out this spread! Truly delicious.

Twin and I capped off our weekend at home with a nostalgic fun-run through our neighborhood. How amazing is this flower-filled yard? We had to pause our jog to snap a quick pic of this beauty.

Tell me, how was your weekend?!

Weekend Recap Vol. 28

image

Hello lovelies & happy Monday. Let’s all go in to the week full of happiness, good vibes, and positivity, ya hear? One reason to be extra happy is because yesterday marked the start of the Spring season woooo-hooo!

I took advantage of the warm(er) weather on Saturday and went for a little fun run along the lake. The water looked extra blue to me, any fellow Chicagoans know why?

image

image

Saturday was spent popping in and out of stores with the fiance. Once dinner time rolled around we decided to travel a bit north of our neighborhood to Uptown. Fiance is a total yelp master and found this cute pub, the Bar on Buena, (that also served Mexican food). We enjoyed our cheap cocktails while eavesdropping on the couple seated next to us who was clearly on their first date.

image

After dinner, we made our way back south and headed to one of our new favorite places, The Annoyance. We’ve only been here a few times, but I’m already in love with it for a few reasons 1.) the drinks are SUPER cheap 2.) it’s semi close to our house 3.) they have a decent FREE open mic stand-up on Saturdays. As you can already tell, I would totally recommend.

image

I woke up Sunday ready to seize the day. And by that I mean my cat woke me up by loudly meowing/squeaking in my face while simultaneously stomping all over my body. I took the custom cat alarm as a sign to get out of bed.

image

After lounging around for the better part of the morning, Fiance and I decided to get a little home workout in. I usually go to the gym on Sundays with twin, but she was out of town this weekend. As you can tell from this less-than-amused facial expression I am making, the workout was difficult. But I’m glad I did it.

image

If there is a better reward for working out other than food, please let me know. Logan desperately wanted to try this place near our house that was advertising their “sushi burrito.” When I say “desperately”, I mean it. I think every 4th topic Fiance brought up this past week was the idea of the “sushi burrito”. The hype was deserving, and the sushi burrito was both inexpensive and delicious. Good call Logan, good call.

After 3 consecutive hours of watching TV/playing on my phone/texting my sister I wanted to stretch my creative legs and bust out my scrapbook project. I’m making a book that chronicles mine and fiance’s year abroad. A self-identified hoarder, I currently possess every european ticket stub, metro ticket, and art museum pamphlet we received over the course of our year as Spanish residents – this makes scrapbooking very easy.

How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun?

Baby Steps to Happiness

Although I’ve consistently been posting outfits, and weekend recaps, I feel like my longer form essay writing has fell by the wayside. In line with the millennial stereotype, I have a lot of feelings and I want to share those thoughts and feelings with people. And you, my tiny group of followers, are my people. So here we go.

Sometimes I struggle with positivity. I would classify myself as a realist, which in the eyes of any optimist makes me a pessimist. Can any of you relate to this sentiment? There is a burden that comes with being a realist. And that burden sometimes means finding happiness in the everyday is a challenge. Which brings us to this list. A small compilation of tiny tricks to happiness.

  • Listening to your favorite song on repeat for a minimum of 30 minutes. This can be executed in the comfort of your home, or via ear buds in your cubicle. You do you.
  • A good or bad workout. Either way you’ll be better for it, and reap the rewards of endorphins.
  • Wear your favorite outfit. Whether it’s the pair of pants that fit your body perfectly, the shirt that instantly makes you feel like a celebrity ready for the paparazzi , or the perfect pair of shoes that give you confidence.
  • Pet/play/gawk at a furry critter. Popular options include, but are not limited to: cats, dogs, ferrets? Don’t own one of the above? Try going for a walk and pet a stranger’s pup (permission is required).
  • Talk to your best bud. Like literally speak to them with your voice, no texting or snapping allowed.
  • Give someone else a compliment
  • Get dolled up: no reason necessary
  • Make something with your own two hands! Bake a cake, learn to crochet, create art, anything is acceptable.

Do you ever struggle to find happiness? What are your go-to remedies?

Weekly Wears

Happy Friday everyone 🙂 I hope your week has been a great one and you’ve had some time to enjoy this extra hour of sunlight! It’s amazing what more daylight has done to my post-work mood. So are you ready for some outfits?!

U of I Fan // Not sure if any of you are aware but this week was the start of March Madness! While I don’t even know if U of I is in the basketball competition (assuming not), these are their colors and it made me look kinda sportsy?

image

Drapey With a Side of Structure // I like the combination of this super flowy tunic with the jean jacket. With the coming of Spring, I felt it was necessary to add a little pop of color to a seemingly dark outfit. I’ve been wearing dark colors almost exclusively through winter, so I’m really excited to put a punch of color back into my wardrobe.

image

Madam Monochromatic // I had been searching high and low for a simple black skirt for a while when I stumbled upon this number at Cross Roads. I love the yoga pant fold-over top (sorry that sounds like a mouthfull). If you go the monochromatic route, it looks a bit like a dress!

image

Ariana Inspired //  Twin and I watched the SNL that Ariana Grande hosted. If you haven’t seen it yet I would highly recommend (girl is mega talented). While I don’t have quite enough hair to make her statement pony tail, I opted for a half-pony and actually loved how it looked! The only part of my outfit that was Ariana inspired were my shoes. Since she’s so tiny, she is always wearing a pair of heels.

So how was your week? Which outfit do you like best?

Weekend Recap Vol. 27

image

Someone please, please, please, tell me how weekends are allowed to go by so quickly? It doesn’t seem fair! As you can tell by the photo above, we celebrated St. Patty’s day here in Chicago. True the Chicago River is always a nice olive green, but for the holiday the city takes it upon themselves to dye it Kelly Green, because, ya know, why not…?

image

The day was filled with exactly what you’d expect a group of twenty-somethings to do on a nice spring Saturday. Day drinking! You can use your imagination here.

image

How cute are Twin & her boyfriend?

image

And just like that it was Sunday. I channeled my inner cat and spent the day lounging on the couch while binge watching Jane the Virgin (surprisingly good show).

image

Did you do anything fun this weekend?

Weekly Wears

Another week has come and gone, which means another round-up of outfits! I only have four looks for you this week because I was running super late for work on Wednesday. Life happens, ya know?

Bulls & Blackhawks Basics // On Monday Kayla, my brother, and I went to a Chicago Bulls game! I’m not a huge sports fan, so I didn’t have any Bulls swag to wear. Instead I opted for a team inspired color coordinated outfit.

image

Jedi Master // Even though I feel like I belong on the set of any Star Wars movies, I can’t help but love this comfy Urban Outfitters poncho. I’m not a huge fan of the neckline, but the other unique aspects of the top outweigh this tiny flaw.

image

Mix-Master Print-Master // I bought these adorable floral shorts at a Ragstock in Madison for a whopping $10. I don’t own a lot of tight shirts, I opted for an altogether flowy outfit and paired a basic striped tee with them. I think these shorts might look better when styled with a body-hugging top. Maybe I’ll make the investment.

image

Woodland Wonders // Twin was nice enough to pick this top up for me at Old Navy because 1) she’s the sweetest 2) it was 100% my style and 3) it was on clearance for $5. I know it’s hard to tell, but the print is made up of woodland creatures and decorative trees!

Which outfit is your favorite?!

Weekend Recap Vol. 26

image

image

Hey Guys! Happy Monday, I’m trying to go into the week with absolute positivity. It should be easy because I’ve had such a great weekend.

Saturday was the perfect blend of sloth mode and party mode. Fiance and I spent a lazy morning parked on the couch, and I made some progress with an embroidery project I’ve been working on. I want to try and do some more DIY projects instead of just binge watching Netflix shows all the time.

imageimage

Logan and I went to a great Thai place, Joy’s Noodles, for a simple Saturday lunch. For some reason I am NEVER in the mood for Asian food, but once Fiance convinces me to get thai, Chinese, or sushi I always end up loving every bite. Maybe one day I’ll surprise him and actually suggest we get Asian food! hahaha

image

After lunch we met up with twin and got some little plant babies! The hardest part about plant shopping? Finding one that won’t kill our lil cat. For my fellow cat mamas out there, Palms and ferns are probably your best bet. Luna has already tried (unsuccessfully) to climb the palm plant. Palm: 1, Cat: 0.

image

Saturday night we took a trip down to the South Loop for a coworkers’ housewarming/birthday party. House parties are one of my favorite things ever, so I never turn down an invite to one. I just can’t wait for some summertime rooftop fiestas at the twin’s place.

Sunday was exactly what it should be. Sleeping-in, gym, grocery shopping, and meal prep for the week. Oh, and TV. Lots and lots of TV.

Weekly Whine: Public Transportation

Have you guys ever seen the Buzzfeed series Whine About It? There’s no grand illusion, the name says exactly what the series is about. Every week the host chooses a topic and essentially “whines” about it for 5 minutes.

While I try my hardest to be a generally positive person, sometimes you just need to blow off some steam and go on a rant. What better platform to do this than a personal blog? Maybe I’ll start a series about things that make me happy so I can bring peace and balance to this lil blog. We’ll see.

As the title suggests, today I’m going to do a little compilation of complaints about taking public transportation 98% of the time. I will be airing my grievances in a visual manner, and by that I mean pairing them with the perfect gifs.

That feeling when…

Your bus tracker was wrong, and you miss the bus by 20 seconds. There isn’t another one for 23 minutes.
