Whole 30: Week 3

whole 30 week 3

Hello friends! I’m three weeks in to my Whole 30 challenge, and it feels kinda like this is never going to end. I’ve come to the point where I hate eating. It’s not fun, it’s literally just a means to an end AKA not being hungry. I kind of assume that’s what this diet is supposed to do to you, but come on.

Food

Breakfasts: I couldn’t get myself to meal prep another egg dish. So I decided to live the scrambled egg life and just ate before work. I’m getting REAL sick of eating eggs. For real guys. The struggle is very real.

Lunches: Chicken was on the menu again. I didn’t make any sweet potatoes for the week because of my epic fails the week prior. I stuck to chicken, bell peppers, carrots, grape tomatoes, and unsalted nuts. Living the high life over here. BUT my dad did make a surprise trip into the city and we got brunch (pictured above).

Dinners:  I tried an amazing way of cooking chicken. The key is BRINING! Life changing advice really, it makes the chicky so moist and delicious. We also had crock pot steak tips, ground turkey with avocado, and eggs & bacon.

Feelings

Peaks:

  •  Guys, I feel like my stomach is the flattest it’s ever been! I can kinda see my lil abs trying to peak through.
  • My workouts continue to be really good, especially my runs!
  • Clear skin is back, my sleeping is great (I woke up at 7:30am on Saturday all on my own), and my clothes are all fitting on the loose side.

Pits:

  • I felt a bit bloated over the weekend, not sure why because my diet has remained super consistent.
  • I just want some popcorn and alcohol, is that too much to ask for.
  • 100% over food. Like even the idea of non-compliant food feels very “meh.” What’s even the point of eating? I’m over it, but I still get hungry so I guess I have to keep eating.

I only have 8 days left, LEGGO.

Hello 2016

piggybackuse

Hi Friends! We’re one (work) week into 2016, and I’m feeling pretty damn good. I’m on day 6 of  Whole 30 and it’s going well. I thought I’d share a couple New Years resolutions. I know it sounds cliche, but even though it’s really just another month, there’s definitely a cleansing feeling that revolves around a ~new year~. Don’t you think? I also want to share some things I’m looking forward to in 2016!

Resolutions Goals:

giphy

  1. Complete the Whole 30 challenge
  2. Grow up, and stop making vodka diets my drink of choice
  3. Read 1 book a month. Not Harry Potter…
  4. MAKE more things (food, crafts, memories)
  5. Take candid pictures/bring my Nikon places
  6. Eat more veggies
  7. Assert myself #sorrynotsorry

Looking Forward To

goalz

  1. GETTING MARRIED!!!
  2. Honeymoon
  3. Feeling comfortable at my job (no longer a super newbie!)
  4. Summertime Chi, there’s no place like it
  5. Holidays (it’s pathetic, but I’m still sad holiday season 2015 is over).

5 Best Moments of 2015

Happy 2016!

I know I should’ve posted this yesterday, but I was a little busy rushing around for last minute NYE things & just generally enjoying a day off work. I want to do a little reflecting on the past year, and how awesome it was for me.

5. Successfully Adulted

livingroom

Logan and I moved in to our first apartment sans roommates! I adopted a furry baby, got a big girl job at a marketing firm, and started paying my student loans. So obviously you can see I’m adulting pretty hardcore.

4. Returned to good ol’ USA

Screen Shot 2015-07-31 at 8.53.04 AM

After 10 months abroad, Logan and I returned to our home country. No truer statement than “no place like home.”

3. Traveled around most of Europe

Segoviaaa

Logan and I visited Cologne, Amsterdam, Geneva, Lisbon, Venice, Rome, Paris, and Prague. Experiencing all the cultures was an amazing experience. Not to mention all of the delicious food!

2. Lived and worked in Spain

I did something I didn’t know I was capable of: teaching! A year of learning, teaching, living, eating, drinking, and hanging out in Madrid resulted in lots of Spanish learning, fears conquered, and introspection.

1. Got ENGAGED

giggles

BFF, soul mate, lover, and my all time favorite human asked me to spend forever with him.

Can’t wait for the adventures 2016 has in store for me!

Gift Guide: Office Besty

GG_Office Bestie

Can you guys believe Thanksgiving is next week?! I can’t wait! I was out of the country last year, so I haven’t had a good Thanksgiving feast in 2 years.

While I can’t wait for Thanksgiving, I also can’t wait for the day after because that means it’s officially Christmas season! I’ll be dreaming of hot chocolate, Michael Buble’s Christmas album, sparkly lights, and of course holiday gift giving until then.

I love gift giving, so I’ve decided to put together a few gift guides for all of you and all the special people in your life.

  1. This super fun day planner will make sure she gets sh*t done
  2. Inspirational mug that will set a positive vibe for the day
  3. Cutesy floral water bottle, to look pretty while being healthy. Win-win.
  4. Desk organizer helps with decluttering the small space she calls home 5 days a week
  5. A motivational print to get her through 9-5
  6. A minimalistic calendar will help her organize her life inside and outside the office
  7. A personalized mousepad to help make your lil space a little more you

5 Binge Worthy Shows

5. Master of None

hug optomized - Imgur

Aziz Ansari’s latest project is basically a twenty something’s anthem. In the brief 10 episodes, this show covers all the hot-button current issues from racism, to not giving enough shits about our grandparents.

4. Scandal

CpxCYD0Or2Ty8

Following Shonda’s typical style, Scandal is drama-filled and chuck full of plot-twists. The series follows super-smart, super-fashionable, and ultra-lovable Olivia Pope as she fights against the evil that is Washington DC politics.

3. Parks and Recreation

Watched nothing but Parks and Recreation all day - Imgur

Need a little light-hearted, heartwarming comedy? Parks and Rec is sure to deliver lots of laughs and good feels. The series follows the life of Leslie Knope, a low-level government employee who cares more about her town than you care about anything. With each passing season, the cast continues to grow more lovable, and more complex.

2. Grey’s Anatomy

8eb1183fbe5c0f08443afc6cdd662980

This is a show that has no re-run limit. I’ve probably seen every episode a minimum of 3 times. We’re dragged through the trenches following the lives of multiple swoon-worthy doctors. They somehow defy all odds and survive a shit-ton of life threatening scenarios (SO MUCH DRAMA), fall in and out of love with each other, and build and breakdown friendships. It’s everything your little heart could desire.

1. Gilmore Girls

I'm an adult male (early 30's) who had to explain who the Gilmore Girls were to a buddy of mine (late 30's) after I had dropped a sick GG reference. Afterwards I was all like - Imgur

The perfect mix of comedy, drama, and romance! All delivered by a fast-talking, coffee-drinking, junk food-eating mother daughter duo who you can’t help but love. The series is as much a coming of age story, as it is a wtf do I do with my life series. Follow along, fall in love, and skip season six.

5 Phases of Unemployment

Phase 1: Everyday is the weekend [YAY]

phase 1

WOO HOO everyday feels like Saturday. You want to stay up late on a Wednesday night, drink a bottle of wine, and have a movie marathon? Go.for.it. because you have nothing to do tomorrow! Now is the time you can catch up on books, shows, and all those DIY projects you’ve been dying to try! Could life get any better than this?

Phase 2: Unparalleled boredom

phase 2

You have successfully watched every episode of Mad Men on Netflix, and you quickly realized you have no income so you can’t actually afford to buy $100 worth of DIY supplies. Your days are long and filled with hours of nothingness.

Phase 3: Deep understanding of life as a dog

phase 3

You have reached the point where you literally count down the hours until your roommates are home because you have spent so much time alone. Desperate for human interaction, you find yourself longingly staring at the door as the clock reaches 5:30pm. So this is how all the pooches feel….

Phase 4: Feeling like the pinnacle of uselessness

phase 4

What is the meaning of life?! I have no purpose, I’m not contributing to society, what am I doingggggggg with all my time? these existential questions will haunt your hours of alone time.

Phase 5: The light at the end of the tunnel

Phase 5

The day has come! You just got that call. That wonderful, glorious call informing you that “YOU GOT THE JOB!” Mega congrats onto you. Now you just have to entertain yourself until your start date…

Best of luck to my fellow unemployed homies, may the odds be ever in your favor.

* Sure to melt your cynical soul: this video is so cheesy, but hey, who doesn’t love love?

* Loving this story about some American heroes who saved the day. That’s sure to boost national pride!

* OMG! Don’t know why I would need these supa cute birth control pill holders, but I do need them.

* Obsessed with Cara Loren’s Boho Chic look, isn’t her hair to die for?!

* Laughed, cried, and had lots of deep thoughts about this NPR Podcast covering the ever-present need for integration in the American school system.

Chicago Highlights: Living

1. Big city feel, midwest charm

midwest

I think Chicago gets compared to NYC a lot. From what I’ve heard/experienced, Chicago has all the perks of big city living while still maintaining the classic midwest niceness. I’m not trying to paint an unrealistic painting of Chicagoans, there are definitely some rude people here, but I don’t think it’s hard to find a smiling stranger, lots of “thank yous”, and people holding doors open for you.

2. Amazing food around every corner

foooood

Deep dish pizza, italian beef, cheese & caramel popcorn; need I say more?! Yes, NOMZ.

3. We have a lake, which is basically the size of an ocean

beach

Obviously the Lake is not an ocean, I’m not a dummie guys. But the lake is hugged by a strip of beaches (yes, actual sand), and you can’t see where the water ends #majestic. So like I said, basically an ocean.

4. Distinct neighborhoods that fit into their own special niche

neighborhoods

Wicker Park (hipsters), Wrigley (drunk college students), River North ($$$), the list goes on and on. Each neighborhood offers it’s own unique culture, so you can hop on the el for 15 minutes and be enveloped in a totally different atmosphere!

5. The skyline will take your breath away

350px-Lincoln_Park_skyline_view

Every time I catch a glimpse of the beautiful Chicago Skyline I stare in awe for a minimum of 10 seconds. There are so many spots in the city where you can relish the beautiful buildings, my personal favorite view is from the Lincoln Park Conservatory. Be there or be square.

What are your favorite things about where you live?

6 Truths about Committed Love

loveinthefield

1. They’re your BFF, cuddle buddy, secret keeper, and partner in crime all wrapped in one *hott* package

Having one person that fulfills basically every relationship requirement is the absolute best.

Screen Shot 2012-04-17 at 11.06.43 PM

2. You know what peak comfort with another human being feels like

You can be exactly who you are without jeopardizing the other person’s feelings for you. Feel free to speak your mind, belch in front of them, and share some weird thoughts and feelings, because regardless of what you say and do, this person is stuck with chose you.

flowers

3. You gotta take the bad with the good

I do some really annoying things #worrywart, my boyfriend also does some (less) annoying things. But love means putting these little annoyances aside so you can enjoy all the other qualities you completely adore about the other person.

loveydoveyCHI

4. The two of you are probably really weird when you’re together

Being so freakishly close comes with some repercussions. Since you’re super comfortable with each other that level of comfort doesn’t always mesh well with the general public. Sometimes I catch myself doing/saying really weird things to Logan that probably aren’t acceptable in public (e.g. greeting him by meowing #sorrynotsorry).

5. You’re really excited about your future with them

Talking about future jobs, dream houses, possible vacations, even kids. Yup, serious stuff comes up when you day dream about what the future holds for the two of you (I’m thinking adventures galore).

6. You know each other better than anyone else

You know their likes, dislikes, pet peeves, how to make them happy, and how to piss them off. It’s your responsibility to use that knowledge for good.
