Currently Craving: Spring Dresses

The temps here in sweet home Chicago are on the up and up! I swear, every year we get about 1 minute of spring after months of winter and then the weather goes straight into summer mode. I guess I shouldn’t complain too much (it was 80 and sunny most of the day!).

Anyway, this week of hot-hot-heat has got me grabbing for short and swingy dresses that feel more like wearing a giant t-shirt. I’d love to add any of these to my current wardrobe, so feel free to send me one hahaha!

Which is your favorite?

Weekend Recap: Vol 34

image

Hellooooo & welcome to another Monday. This past weekend in Chicago was SO good. The weather was beautiful and we had absolutely nowhere to be. That translates to a pretty lazy, but equally great couple days off work.

What I did //

image

I started my Saturday morning off with a run. And believe it or not, I actually went before coffee or breakfast *gasp.* I’m not particularly fast, nor can I run very far (3-4 miles). But I won’t lie, these weekend runs on the lake have become one of my favorite ways to start the day.

image

image

Isn’t nature cool? I got a macro, wide angled, and fish eyed lens clip for my iPhone and I’ve been having so much fun with it! You can get yourself a pack of add on lenses here for a whopping $7.

image

Saturday was filled with a day of walking. Is anyone else obsessed with tracking their steps? Well on Saturday I tracked 24,161 steps! *pats self on back* We’re in market for a new couch, so most  of our steps were taken while on our way to furniture stores.

image

While we were waiting for our dinner table, we meandered around Armitage and found ourselves in a Lush store. Cue all the sniffs, smells, and wafts. And for those of you wondering, those are not edible…

image

By now you know no weekend would be complete without some Luna hangs. This weekend she assumed the identity of a piece of fruit. Yes, that is our fruit bowl.

What I ate //

image

We cooked most of our meals this weekend, but we did manage to leave the house for some delicious tacos on Saturday! If you are in the Chicago area, I would definitely recommend checking out Taco Joint. Their chihuahua + chorizo appetizer is to die for.

image

As I mentioned early on, the weather was so great! We decided to take full advantage of the glorious sunshine and ate our lunch outside, picnic-style. Cured meats, cheese, hummus, pretzel chips, and cantaloupe. Pinch me, I’m still dreaming about this perfect snacky lunch.

image

This is our *YAY SPRING* look. Side note: my face now strikes a shocking resemblance to a tomato.

What I drank //

image

Fiance and I went out Friday night to a super chill bar in Lakeview. They had board games, silly decor, and reasonably priced drinks. I’d call that a win-win-win.

image

So this place looked A W E S O M E. And they were advertising $1.75 iced coffee! Call me a sucker (or basic), but I was sold after seeing cleverly placed chalkboard sign. I’m really sorry to say that their iced coffee is not cold brew, and thus tasted watered down and is actually not hot at all. Le sigh. I’m sure their hot drinks are good though, I’d definitely go back try a latte.

How was your weekend?

Weekly Wears

Hi friends! Congrats on making it to the weekend. It’s supposed to be a good one here in Chicago, so get ready for a solid Weekend Recap on Monday. But for now let’s focus on what I wore this week!

image

Art Student Wannabe // I wore this to my future brother-in-law’s senior showcase for graphic design. I think it’s the shoes that really tie this look together. The more I wear booties with dresses and skirts, the more I love the style.

image

Polka doll // Alright guys, how cute is this teeny tiny polka dot dress/tunic. I’ll be the first to admit it’s pretty short, so I layered some biker shorts underneath. You can’t really tell, but the fabric is a really heavy canvas-cotton blend. Color me obsessed.

image

Boho babe // This top is so unique, and goes perfectly with these olive PacSun corduroys. This look kinda screams fall, but with the bright coral colored top, I think it can pass for a spring outfit.

image

Plaid is rad // Can you tell I’m trying to free my legs from the constraint of pants this week? I scooped up this babydoll a few years ago from Forever 21. What did I tell you about the booties + dress combo? Totally obsessed.

image

A little pep in your step // We round out this week with one of my all time favorite thrift store finds. This peplum tunic is so precious, and I’ve been able to style it SO many ways. This is the first time I tried pairing it with this white blazer, and I couldn’t  be happier with the outcome. I’ll definitely be rocking this look all spring.

Be More Empathetic in 3 Steps

image

For me, empathy is one of the most endearing qualities a human being can exude. Don’t you think? Easier said than done, I know, but here are some simple ways I try to practice and improve my empathy.

1. Watch the news

Open your eyes to what’s going on in the world around you. It’s so easy to limit your worldview, but it’s equally as easy to expand it. Watching, reading, or following various news sources will help you better understand the lives of other people.

2. Active listening

Have you ever been in a conversation and you catch yourself just waiting for a pause so you can say what you think? While this doesn’t condemn you to an identity as a narcissist, it’s not the best way to be a good friend and practice empathy. Instead of thinking how someone’s story relates to you, try making it completely about them. Ask follow up questions, show you’re listening (no scrolling allowed), and really invest in what they’re taking the time to tell you.

3. Practice taking on different perspectives

This is huge for me. If you are facing a difficult decision or situation try to keep everything in perspective. If someone is rude to you, try to remove yourself from the scenario and understand where they are coming from. I truly believe people are naturally good, it’s just sometimes their actions are taken without thinking about their motivations behind them.

I know this post is a bit out of context here. But my life isn’t one dimensional, so I don’t think this blog should be either.

Do you have any tips on practicing empathy?

Cat Attack

Wow guys, sometimes you just have a really shitty week. That’s how I would describe this last one for me. And what cheers me up when I feel like a steaming pile of poo? CATS! So if any of you are down in the dumps please enjoy these photos of my little Luna.

Weekend Recap: Vol 33

image

While the boys are away the girls will play. That perfectly describes mine and Kayla’s Saturday. We seized the day early on by jumpin on a bus and heading downtown. We are usually ones to do most of our shopping at second hand stores. Not necessarily to be ~trendy~ but mostly because there aren’t any of the big names in our hood. And also we are kinda lazy. But this weekend we decided to see what the deal with H&M, and Zara were. Sadly I only found a $5 bikini top. Maybe I will stick to my second hand stores…

image

For those of you dating someone with a hearty appetite, you may be able to identify with the sadness of never having snacks for a meal. Kayla and I are both victims of this circumstance. But since the boys were both in their hometowns we took the opportunity to scour the aisles of Trader Joes, scoop up the essential snackings and dug in. We then proceeded to spend all afternoon curled up on her couch watching children’s movies. Ratatouille is just too good for its own good, ya know?

image

image

By now you know how much I love my kitty cuddles, and Luna did not disappoint this weekend. Oh yeah, Logan also came back.

image

image

One of the best things about our neighborhood is there are so many local shops to pop in and out of. We stumbled into this book store and I rediscovered my love of physical pages, but just couldn’t swallow the prices. Libraries all the way.

There’s also a really cool place called the Coffee & Tea exchange, can you guess what they sell..? COFFEE & TEA! YAS. So those barrels you see up there are filled with delicious, silky, life-maintaining coffee. Also, smells are free. S C O R E.

image

Capping off the weekend with a face mask which kind of stung my skin. Does that happen to anyone else? Also I’m jumping on the Game of Thrones train (yeah, 5 years late, I know). So I took Sunday night to binge a few episodes.

How was your weekend?!

Weekly Wears

Happy weekend lovelies and handsomes. I hope it was a solid one!

Keep scrolling to see what I wore this week 🙂

Perfectly Patriotic // I’m thinking I’ll have to repeat this outfit for Memorial Day in a few weeks, because it is just too good. This shirt is thrifted (gotta work hard for those finds) and the pants are from H&M.

image

Spring Awakening // As you’ve noticed (maybe?) I’ve been wearing so. much. black. I dress with the weather, and it has been very doom and gloom over here. But this week we were blessed with an ounce of warmth, so you better believe I took advantage and went full on spring!

image

Dreary Duds // As mentioned above, the weather has been terrible! Rain, clouds, fog – I’m pretty sure I forgot what the sun looks like…

image

Printed Pixie // These pixie cut pants from Old Navy are one of my favorite cuts ever. They are soft and stretchy and are great for a pop of uniqueness to any outfit.

image

The Lazy Girl // These pants are the only “boyfriend” pair I own. They’re from express and are SO comfortable. Another plus? They’re slim enough so my 5’5″ frame doesn’t look extra stumpy.

image

Which outfit is your favorite?

Will you be my usher?

image

Hi guys! I wanted to give you a bit of a wedding update. Remember the bridesmaids/groomsmen goodie boxes we made a few months ago? Well we wanted to do something similar for our ushers, so a few weeks back we bought them some alc, and I made them cards!

imageimage

Clearly had to go with an Usher theme for the cards, get it?

imageimage

All you need are some plain cardstock cards, scrapbooking paper, a sharpie, and some string.

The boys loved the cards, and we are so happy to have them join in on our special day.

Weekend Recap: KC

image

Hi friends! We did it, we made it to hump day. So give yourself a high-five (AKA one clap), and call it a day. This past weekend was a special one for fiance and me. We took a trip down south (Kansas City is technically the midwest, but very much south of us). It was my brother in-law to-be’s portfolio show, so we went down to show him some sibling support. But we did a lot more than just go to his show. I’ll break this post down by items consumed, places went, and dogs. So keep on reading. Ya know, because dogs.

Food & Stuff:

image

image

Yeah guys, I’m addicted to coffee and I’m not embarrassed to admit it. We went to two different local places (we’re above The Bucks). The Roasterie was my personal favorite, and they had this nitrogen infused coffee on tap, which basically tasted like a creamy Guinness. Not all super heroes wear capes guys.

image

In a plot twist that rivals The Sixth Sense, this diner called Big Biscuits served really big biscuits. True to brand, true to brand.

image

Alright, so all of you people who are stuck in 2006 and don’t know how cool KC is now. Let me tell you, they have one of the best bar scenes. If you go down there make sure to check out Westport, you will not be disappointed by the abundance of patio and rooftop bars.

Places we went:

image

image

Overland Park is a city right next to KC and has one of the cutest farmer’s markets. It’s just one strip in a parking lot, but just look at these homemade bottles of Kombucha and tell me you aren’t already packing your bags.

image

This dope-ass arena is in the Power & Lights district. Downtown Kansas City just, I mean literally just, started running a city street car (it’s free!). It makes getting around the downtown districts super simple & fast AF – well faster than walking.

image

image

image

Mason, AKA brother in law to be, had his portfolio showing at the WWI Museum. The interior was cool enough, but check out this view! I told you guys Kansas has a pretty impressive scene going on right now.

image

We checked out a new exhibit at the Nelson, KC’s art museum. We go here almost every time we visit, and I must admit it is always nice. I particularly like their modern wing & the atrium.

Rest & Relaxation

image

image

image

It wouldn’t be a perfect weekend without a little R&R. Logan’s aunt and uncle also live in KC so we spent a lot of time at their place (they are the most amazing hosts). They filled my belly with tasty food, and my heart with lots of dog love. What more could a girl ask for?

What did you do last weekend?

Weekly Wears

Hey guys! I’m writing this post from good ol’ Kansas City. Land of bbq, 20 minute drives, and some of the finances family.

Wetook a trip down here for his brother’s senior show. I didn’t bring my computer so in writing this post on the mobile version of the site *yikes* it’s pretty difficult. So I’m going to switch up my normal outfit format, and just let you enjoy the visuals of each look.
