Cascading Flower Power /// The look is made up of floral cloth shorts (so old), a flowy cotton blend tee (from Primark UK), leggings, thrifted booties, and a basic scarf. This outfit is comfy and trendy. I don’t know about you, but I’m a HUGE fan of shorts + tights.

Power To the Polka /// These Old Navy Pixie Printed pants are among my favorites! They are just stretchy enough, and the material is unlike any other pants I own. Paired with a thrifted top, and tassel necklace this look is simple with a little polka dot punch.

Elegant Rockergirl /// I was told by one of my colleagues that this look was very “elegant.” Not totally how I would classify this striped turtle neck + high waisted combo, but let’s go with it.

Black & White & Red All Over /// One day twin came over and literally threw this shirt at me. It was on clearance at Old Navy and she said “it was so your style, I had to get it for you.” Well she was totally right. This printed (little bunnies and foresty things) peplum top with black skinnies and a blazer was a perfect office look. I think I would actually like it better sans blazer, but my office gets so cold sometimes!

What do you guys think about the selfie approach to weekly wears? Would you prefer to see pictures outside the realm of my companies bathroom?

Whole 30 Results

Whole 30 Results

I did it! Yesterday was Day 30 of my Whole 30 challenge and I’m SO SO SO happy 🙂 It was definitely a challenge, but I would say that the benefits are worth the sacrifices you make. You can refer to my week recaps to read more about what I ate, and how I felt about it (Week 1Week 2Week 3Week 4).

The Good: My whole 30 experience was actually pretty chill. I didn’t have the sugar detox, I didn’t have major cravings, and I didn’t have any aches or pains from the dietary switch up. I did sleep relatively well (this has never been a big problem for me). My skin was good most of the time (except during my period), and my workouts were great! I also ate a larger variety of meat. I’m a total carnivore, but I usually shy away from high calorie meat, so eating tons of beef was A-okay with me.

The Bad: 4 weekends sans alcohol takes a bit of a toll on your social life. Sad but true. I’m 23, so what do you think most of my friends like to do on the weekends? Another thing, I think it was about half way through that I just completed hated eating anything. No food sounded good, and I had to force myself to eat so I wouldn’t have to deal with my hunger pains. I got over this during week 4.

The Ugly: There were a lot of aspects of this diet I disagreed with, but I made a commitment to follow the rules, so that’s what I did. I HATE how the entire Whole 30 site sounds like it’s shaming any non-plan food. Legumes, low fat dairy, and whole grains are not bad for you, and it really pissed me off that the site makes it seem like they are.

Results: I lost 4 pounds, 1.5″ off my hips, 1″ off my waist, and 1″ off each leg. I’m happy with these results, and even though it might be hard to tell in the photos, I’m smaller than I’ve ever been. All of my shorts are big on me!

The Future: I like this diet. I like how it made me feel, and look. For these reasons I’m going to stick it out and use Whole 30 as a baseline to my diet 80% of the time. I’m going to reintroduce legumes (hummus, peanut butter, and beans), dairy (as a treat), and alcohol on Friday & Saturdays (because social life, ya know?).

Weekend Recap Vol. 22

Happy Tuesday guys! I hope you had a great weekend filled with laughs, tiny adventures, and your favorite humans. This past weekend was unseasonably nice in Chicago. It was sunny with a high of 45 on Saturday, and you better believe we took full advantage of it.

We started our day journey with a delicious meal in Ravenswood (yes, like the ABC Family PLL spinoff). I had an AMAZING naked burger (sans bread), and it was exactly what I needed.

It was our first time in Ravenswood, and I loved every charming street of this Chicago neighborhood. The blocks are littered with small businesses that sell all the pretty things you want but don’t need.

We stumbled upon the cutest little coffee shop called The Grind Cafe. I ordered a loose leaf coconut tee, and it did not disappoint. One of my favorite things about this little gem is their hand stamped coffee cups, can you see the blue fern on it in the picture?

We spent a little time wandering around this specialty grocery store that specializes in German cousine. I can’t wait to go back when I’m done with Whole 30 so we can get some German beer!

Sunday was business as usual: gym, grocery shopping, house cleaning, with a side of little Luna kitty cuddles. Doesn’t that picture of fiancee and Luna just melt your heart?!

Whole 30: Week 4

Whole 30 Week 4

Well here we are, we’ve almost made it to the finish line! Too bad it’s not the Whole 28, ya know what I mean? But I’ve been feeling pretty good this week, definitely better than last week I’d say. I still cannot look at another scrambled egg or baked chicken breast (too much of a good thing).

Food 

Breakfasts: So I’m 100% over the egg game. I managed to have scrambled eggs and a plain omelette two days of the week. But I also took to shakes this week. While shakes are discouraged, which I wholeheartedly disagree with by the way, it was necessary for me if I was going to try to eat breakfast. For these shakes I used banana, strawberry, and egg whites! It was filling and delicious.

Lunches: CHICKEN, we need a break. You’ve gotten me through 28 days, but I literally can’t even with you anymore. I had baked chicken and veggies all week. I’ve also come to the conclusion that pistachios and raisins are soulmates.

Dinners:  This was a good week for dinners! Lots of beef (NOMZ). Lean ground beef, ground turkey, eggs, and bacon made an appearance this week. I’ve also realized I’m completely obsessed with potatoes and plantains! Of course lots of veggies were also on the menu. I find frozen veggies so disgusting, that I insist we buy fresh produce. Frozen vegetables are just way too mushy for my taste.

Feelings

Peaks:

  • My clothes are still fitting loosely.
  • My workouts continue to be strong, and I’m feeling lighter during my runs (placebo?)
  • I’ve been sleeping pretty well this past week, but I don’t feel like it’s an insane improvement to how I usually sleep.

Pits: 

  • This was my fourth weekend of sobriety, and I’m feeling a little like I’m a prisoner in my apartment. I need to go out!
  • I’m not really craving any off-plan food. I just want peanut butter and popcorn. But not together, that’d be kinda weird. But maybe, kinda delicious.
  • I’ve started stressing about the reintroduction phase, and slipping back into old habits. But I’m sure it’ll be fine!

Only 2 more days until I’ve completed my Whole 30 adventure!

Praise be! It’s Friday!!! This week was a tough one for me, maybe because of the short week last week? Or maybe because I’m on day 25 of my Whole 30, which means one more sober weekend for this girl! Now for some outfits of the week

Office Ballerina // This dress borders on too fancy for a casual work atmosphere. But it’s really all about assessors. Pair this drop-waisted dress with black tights, a cardigan, and a giant scarf to make it more laid back.

Pattern Melting Pot // Stripes? Check. Plaid? Check. Houndstooth? Check. Cognac? Check. This mash-up screams comfy and cozy. Makes days at the office feel a little more like lounging on the couch.

Wintertime Yuppie // I got this coat at Old Navy for $15! Isn’t that insane? It’s not very thick, so you gotta save this bad boy for the warmer colder days. By that I mean any day over 35 degrees with at least a little sunshine.

Olive You // Get it, like “I love you.” Adding this statement vests can bring your basic tunic + leggings combo to the next level. I love how it looks with a pop of red!

Hi guys! Happy Tuesday, I’m still thinking about the weekend hahaha.

On Saturday twin and I met some of our girlfriends at the local indoor farmers market. I’m a frequent market goer during the summer months, but it was my first time at the indoor one. While the number of choices are a little smaller than the outdoor market, there are still some really good produce! The shining stars in my eyes were the giant sweet potatoes (literally the size of a 5 month old kitten), these dried pears (no sugar or preservatives added!), and these whopping honeycrisps.

My dad surprised the twin and I for an impromptu brunch (he works in the city). So nice being able to chill with papa bear while scarfing down a chorizo breakfast bowl!

After lunch fiance and I moseyed over the the Warby Parker location in Lincoln Park. It was surprisingly fun to try on all the different frames they have in store. Even if I don’t wear glasses… We were out and about because of a super special surprise that I’ll blog about later.

No weekend would be complete without cat cuddles! On Saturday we followed Luna’s lead and had a chill movie night with some friends. Made the mistake of watching a horror movie and now I’m convinced aliens are entering our apartment at night. LOL JK JK… But kinda.

Sunday is my errands day, what about you? Gym, grocery shopping, and meal prep take up most of my Sundays.

Weekend Recap Vol. 17

Collect-Moments-Wallpaper

Hello all, I was too busy having fun and enjoying small moments with great friends to take pics.

* Chicago had it’s first snowfall of the season on Friday!

* I went out with the fiance and his coworkers after work on Friday, it’s always so fun to see your person interact with people you don’t know, but they do. Do you know what I mean? I think it helps remind you about some of the things you first loved about them.

* My good friend who moved to San Fran earlier this year came to town, so Logan and I hosted an impromptu pot luck with some people to catch up, eat, and drink!

* On Sunday I went to a birthday brunch for one of my lady friends! It felt very adult, and also motivated me to leave my apartment on this chilly weekend.

Hip hip horray for a weekend filled with lots of friends, giggles, and plenty of TV time.

Weekend Recap Vol. 14

It’s November!!! That means holiday season is upon us *YAZZZZZ*! The Fiance and I were living in Madrid last year, and the holidays just weren’t the same overseas (obvi), so I’m extra super excited for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and my birthday! This weekend turned out to be the epitome of chill. It was much needed after the last few weekends of go-go-go.

* Fiance was out of town all weekend which meant it was just me and my main squeeze, Luna.

* I don’t know if it was because Logan was gone this weekend, but the cat was SUPER cuddly. Which, as you can see, resulted in a lot of cat pics #sorrynotsorry.

* I went to two Halloween parties dressed as a Jedi. Unfortunately that meant everyone wanted to steal my $3 light saber…
