Chicago Highlights: Living

1. Big city feel, midwest charm

midwest

I think Chicago gets compared to NYC a lot. From what I’ve heard/experienced, Chicago has all the perks of big city living while still maintaining the classic midwest niceness. I’m not trying to paint an unrealistic painting of Chicagoans, there are definitely some rude people here, but I don’t think it’s hard to find a smiling stranger, lots of “thank yous”, and people holding doors open for you.

2. Amazing food around every corner

Deep dish pizza, italian beef, cheese & caramel popcorn; need I say more?! Yes, NOMZ.

3. We have a lake, which is basically the size of an ocean

beach

Obviously the Lake is not an ocean, I’m not a dummie guys. ButĀ the lake is hugged by a strip of beaches (yes, actual sand), and you can’t see where the water ends #majestic. So like I said, basically an ocean.

4. Distinct neighborhoods that fit into their own special niche

neighborhoods

Wicker Park (hipsters), Wrigley (drunk college students), River North ($$$), the list goes on and on. Each neighborhood offers it’s own unique culture, so you can hop on the el for 15 minutes and be envelopedĀ in a totally different atmosphere!

5. The skyline will take your breath away

Every time I catch a glimpse of the beautiful Chicago Skyline I stare in awe for a minimum of 10 seconds. There are so many spots in the city where you can relish the beautiful buildings, my personal favorite view is from the Lincoln Park Conservatory. Be there or be square.

Currently Craving: Home Goods

Logan (my boyfriend) and I just moved into our first apartment sans roommates! I feel so adult! But since I was an RA in college, and Logan lived in a studio, we are seriously lacking on some home goods. I’m typing this as the painters are moving around me painting our whole apartment white (it’s currently a weird mix of burgundy, blue, and brown from the last tenant).

Our place is pretty massive for a one bedroom (at least to me), so I’d love to fill the space with some shelving units that we can put pictures, plants, and knick knacks in. I’m also dying over this Madrid Etsy print. Since Logan and I taught there for a year, Spain is close to our hearts. That headboard makes my heart happy, and it would make reading before bed so comfy!
