Adventure Time: Madison, WI

Hello friends and happy Tuesday! This weekend the four of us (Twin, Boyfriend, Fiance, and I) traveled up to Madison for Valentine’s weekend. It’s always nice to get out of the city for a little while, and Madison was the perfect place for us to go!

We stayed in an amazing AirBNB, that was super close to the main square. Not only was the location perfect, it also came with two adorable little fur babies for the weekend. Gus & Baxter were purrffect roomies while we were there and it was fun having some kitty cuddles while we were away from our own lil Luna.

We started the day off right with deluxe bagel sammies @ Gotham Bagels! I loved this place because it was SO Madison. It was littered with college kids suffering from crazy hangovers (we’ve all been there), and the vibe was just so different from Chicago. I enjoyed “The Big G” which was composed of spicy prociutto, cheddar cheese, and egg.

Most of the afternoon was spent wandering down State Street. It felt like -10 degrees (not exaggerating), so popping in and out of the shops was a welcome warm-up. There are a ton of locally owned shops with special goodies to look at, so if you get a chance to visit Mad Town, you should definitely devote an afternoon to walking down State.

IMG_6745The perk of the harsh winter weather was that it gave us the perfect excuse to gulp down some delicious lattes at Colectivo. The fiance and I went to school in Wisconsin, so this coffee branch is near an dear to our hearts. I am completely obsessed with their decor! If you couldn’t tell by the name, this coffee chain has a Latin American vibe, and decorates it’s walls with sugar skulls and bright colors.

We spent some time recharging at the airbnb, but before we knew it it was time for Happy Hour @ The Merchant! These were some of the most amazing signature cocktails I’ve ever had. Be ready to wait a while for your drink because they truly are prepared with love!

No pictures of dinner @ Tipsy Cow because we scarfed it down the second it was brought to our table. We had to indulge in a pretzel starter + cheese curds, because, ya know, Wisconsin… As for the meal, I had an amazing cheese and salmon melt. YUM.

Day 2’s main activity was a brewery tour @ Ale Asylum. For $5 you get a pint of beer, a 1 hour tour, and some tastings! I really liked our tour guide, and it was one of the more educational brewery tours I’ve been on. Best learning of the day: yeast are tiny organisms that eat sugar, poop beer, and get rewarded for falling asleep the quickest. If that didn’t make sense to you, I recommend checking out Ale Asylum for some tasty beer and quality education.

We stayed in on Valentine’s day, because prixe fixe menus really aren’t our cup of tea. *not pictured* the meat and cheese plate we inhaled during a round of cards. Fiance made this amazing chicken wrapped in bacon, and I contributed with some sweet potato bites. For dessert we had puppy chow. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

That wraps up our weekend in Madison. What did you do for Valentine’s Day?

Weekend Recap Vol 7

KC3

This past weekend the boyfriend and I went to Kansas City to visit some family. I don’t think KC gets enough credit for how awesome of a city it is, so here are some pics to convince you.

* We had some amazing Chinese food at Blue Koi. I ordered the ginger chicken with noodles. YUM

* Quality cat snuggles with the boyfriends brother’s kitty cat

* Seeing the boyfriend with his family makes me fall in love with him all over again

* We went to a flea market in the meat packing district. All the stores were in old warehouses so I basically felt like I was on the set of Rent.

* They had these candles made from old alcohol (miller lite, absolut, makers mark) bottles. I totally felt like I was inside of an Etsy store.

KC2

* I’m seriously obsessed with Kansas City beer. Specifically Boulevard’s Unfiltered Wheat!

* Looking for a tasty breakfast sammy? Check out Opera House

* Tapas at Bodega, obviously not as good as Spain, but it’ll do.

* Now that we’re all over 21 we could finally enjoy a night out on the town. I was happily surprised that like every bar had a rooftop. AMAZING

* Some evidence of our night out, so much fun!

We had a great Labor Day Weekend in KC, I can’t wait to go back!

If Cities Were Stereotypes from High School

1. NYC: most popular

nyc

This cities’ reputation proceeds it, and it’ll f*ck you you over in more ways than one. Sounds a little like the popular kids in high school…

2. Paris: best dressed

paris

For anyone who asks, Parisians and the city itself (buildings, cafes, even the alleys) are just as glamorous as the media portrays. Much like that girl who always wore amazing outfits while everyone else slumped around the halls in sweats.

3. Madrid: most social

Image4Madrid

Cheap, chill, and super chatty. Madrid’s atmosphere is easy-going, to say the least. You’ll always be welcomed with a nice double-cheek kiss, similarly to the kid in high school who transcended social boundaries, and was somehow friends with every person on Earth.

4. Amsterdam: most attractive

amsterdam

With endless canals, pastel-colored buildings, and rows of house boats: Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Although they’re known for their cannabis consumption, but it should really be highlighted for everything being so effing beautiful.

5. Chicago: best personality

chicago

Big city glam, with rural town charm. Most of the inhabitants are kind and welcoming (in comparison to other cities). Not to mention the pure magnetism of the breath-taking skyline & lakefront combo.

6. London: most likely to succeed

london

This city basically exudes “my way or the highway” type attitude, it doesn’t take shit from anyone or anything. I mean, come on, just look at how they drive. As in, they are one of the very few countries that drive on the left side of the road, forcing all travelers to abandon all previously held beliefs about societal movement. They don’t just drive on the left side: people also walk on the left side, go up the stairs on that side, and the escalators are switched. Talk about a true bossy pants.
