5 Reasons I Love Millennials

I was born in 1992, which puts me smack dab in the middle of the Millennial generation. A lot of people have negative things to say about those born between 1980-2000, but I’m here to call BS. Call me self-absorbed #generationY, but I’m in love with my generation. And here’s why:

1. We’re the most educated generation…ever.

smart

Education is a privilege. This is a statement I’m well aware of, and completely agree with. Whether you want to blame the economic collapse, or the crazy competitive job market, my generation was essentially forced into higher education. But this shove towards more knowledge is a peak, not a pit of being a millennial. It was in college that I was informed about humanitarian issues, different walks of life, and the history we weren’t taught in high school. You can read more about life lessons I learned during university here.

2. We have a voice, and aren’t afraid to use it.

opinion

As you can probably tell from the sheer amount of blogs on WordPress, twenty-somethings have a lot of opinions and aren’t afraid to voice them. While some may chalk this up to narcissism, I wholeheartedly disagree. Speaking your mind is a powerful thing; it encourages confidence, knowledge, and change!

3. We care.

care

It’s because of the aforementioned points that I think my generation is among the most empathetic ones of all time. As a result of listening to other educated voices, we are exposed to the many problems of the world. No longer is a person only aware of issues surrounding them in their own homes, or schools, or towns. We have been given multiple platforms that serve to expose issues (both local and global), and we can do something about them.

4. We’re changing the world

change

Smart, inventive, and discontent with injustice. Young people are gaining powerful positions, and because they are educated and empathetic we can evoke change.

5. We care about experiences more than products

yolo

I read that department stores are worried because Millennials are spending their hard-earned cash on plane tickets, hotels, and concerts rather than an expensive pair of pants. I love that my generation seeks adventure and memories!

Hello friends & happy FriYAY! Hope your week was a good one, and you have a fun weekend ahead of you.

Cascading Flower Power /// The look is made up of floral cloth shorts (so old), a flowy cotton blend tee (from Primark UK), leggings, thrifted booties, and a basic scarf. This outfit is comfy and trendy. I don’t know about you, but I’m a HUGE fan of shorts + tights.

IMG_6657

Power To the Polka /// These Old Navy Pixie Printed pants are among my favorites! They are just stretchy enough, and the material is unlike any other pants I own. Paired with a thrifted top, and tassel necklace this look is simple with a little polka dot punch.

Image (2)

Elegant Rockergirl /// I was told by one of my colleagues that this look was very “elegant.” Not totally how I would classify this striped turtle neck + high waisted combo, but let’s go with it.

IMG_6656

Black & White & Red All Over /// One day twin came over and literally threw this shirt at me. It was on clearance at Old Navy and she said “it was so your style, I had to get it for you.” Well she was totally right. This printed (little bunnies and foresty things) peplum top with black skinnies and a blazer was a perfect office look. I think I would actually like it better sans blazer, but my office gets so cold sometimes!

What do you guys think about the selfie approach to weekly wears? Would you prefer to see pictures outside the realm of my companies bathroom?

Praise be! It’s Friday!!! This week was a tough one for me, maybe because of the short week last week? Or maybe because I’m on day 25 of my Whole 30, which means one more sober weekend for this girl! Now for some outfits of the week

Office Ballerina // This dress borders on too fancy for a casual work atmosphere. But it’s really all about assessors. Pair this drop-waisted dress with black tights, a cardigan, and a giant scarf to make it more laid back.

IMG_6538

Pattern Melting Pot // Stripes? Check. Plaid? Check. Houndstooth? Check. Cognac? Check. This mash-up screams comfy and cozy. Makes days at the office feel a little more like lounging on the couch.

IMG_6540

Wintertime Yuppie // I got this coat at Old Navy for $15! Isn’t that insane? It’s not very thick, so you gotta save this bad boy for the warmer colder days. By that I mean any day over 35 degrees with at least a little sunshine.

IMG_6541

Olive You // Get it, like “I love you.” Adding this statement vests can bring your basic tunic + leggings combo to the next level. I love how it looks with a pop of red!

IMG_6518

Pardon My Polka // This shift dress basically feels like wearing a giant, super soft tee all day long. To add a little personality to this simple dress, pair it with a solid cardigan, booties, and a statement necklace to add a little

Any fun weekend plans?!

Happy Friday guys! We finally made it. Is it just me, or do shortened weeks somehow feel longer than normal ones? Maybe it’s the expectation of the week going by really quickly, either way it sucks.

This week was all about comfy & cozy with a side of stripes!

IMG_6464

I love this asymmetrical free people top. It looks great when paired with some simple black leggings, boots, and a colored cardigan! How pretty is the little pendant that Logan got me for Christmas? Coral + turquoise just go together, you know?

I really loved this combination. My suede skirt + simple black tee + oversized scarf. It was a perfect blend of warmth and style. Sorry I can’t really link any of my outfits because I mostly shop at second hand stores (my favorite is Crossroads).

We finish the week out with a simple striped tee paired with jeans and ballet flats for a pop of color.

upclose

Happy Christmas Eve ya’ll! I can’t believe how fast Christmas has crept up on me this year. I think it’s partially because it’s my first year working in the real world. No longer being a student means no more mega long winter breaks 😦

I do have a few days off, and I’m ready for rest, relaxation, and some quality family time!

basic

This outfit is a perfect mix of rugged and girly. Wearing a big ol’ flannel under a sweet sweater is just a great combo, don’t you think?

Do you have any fun Christmas traditions?

Weekend Recap Vol. 19

Screen Shot 2015-12-08 at 7.38.35 PM

Happy humpday homies! I’m a bit late on my weekend recap, not that I could imagine you guys being too torn up about it.

* On Friday my team at work had a holiday potluck! Cheese is life. The end.

* Saturday was my company’s holiday party. It was my first-ever big-girl holiday party and it was an absolute blast! It was held at the Museum of Broadcast Journalism.

*Delicious food, an open bar, and an amazing band were the highlights of the night.

* On Sunday I paid for my enjoyment of the open bar, and was bound to the couch with a Luna on my lap.

How was your weekend?!

Weekend Recap Vol. 18

Screen Shot 2015-11-30 at 10.24.38 AM

Happy Cyber Monday guys! I hope you enjoyed a long weekend with the people you love.

* I found out my cat hates other cats. Kayla brought her lil nug home too, and my lil Luna was not about having another 4-legged creature around her.

* The twin + our significant others and I went to the only cool bar in our hometown on Wednesday & saw our entire graduating class

* Turkey day was spent at multiple locations: my house, fiance’s aunts, and fiance’s grandparents

* I headed back home on Friday and spent the day chillin to the max with the twin. We binge watched Jessica Jones all weekend long.

* On Saturday I FOUND MY WEDDING DRESS!!! It was the third one I tried on and I seriously just knew it was the one.

* Saturday night we hosted our annual friendsgiving with our high school posse. Six years strong!

* Now I’m back in the city, and back to reality

Our Lil Home Tour

livingroom

Logan and I moved into our humble abode in August. We started with basically zero possessions (downfall of living abroad for a year). While we aren’t finished decorating our space, I really wanted to share some pics, and see how far it comes in the next year.

pillows

We got this giant couch of craigslist and I’m OBSESSED. As you can probably tell, the thing is massive! Perfect for binge watching TV, snuggling up for a movie night, or surfing the web.

Our collage wall (still a WIP) features postcards we collected throughout our year abroad.

Our room has two HUGE closets #praisebe. We haven’t really spent much time decorating this space since we don’t spend a ton of time in there.

For some reason we have a massive dining room. At first we had no idea what to do with all the space, but it’s come together pretty nicely. Having a giant dining room is also a great excuse to host lots of little parties!

Our kitchen is pretty meh, so here’s a pic of our fridge. Can you tell I have a thing  for photobooths…?

Thanks for joining the home tour! Which room is your favorite?

Weekend Recap Vol. 17

Collect-Moments-Wallpaper

Hello all, I was too busy having fun and enjoying small moments with great friends to take pics.

* Chicago had it’s first snowfall of the season on Friday!

* I went out with the fiance and his coworkers after work on Friday, it’s always so fun to see your person interact with people you don’t know, but they do. Do you know what I mean? I think it helps remind you about some of the things you first loved about them.

* My good friend who moved to San Fran earlier this year came to town, so Logan and I hosted an impromptu pot luck with some people to catch up, eat, and drink!

* On Sunday I went to a birthday brunch for one of my lady friends! It felt very adult, and also motivated me to leave my apartment on this chilly weekend.

Hip hip horray for a weekend filled with lots of friends, giggles, and plenty of TV time.

What’d you do over the weekend?

5 Binge Worthy Shows

5. Master of None

hug optomized - Imgur

Aziz Ansari’s latest project is basically a twenty something’s anthem. In the brief 10 episodes, this show covers all the hot-button current issues from racism, to not giving enough shits about our grandparents.

4. Scandal

CpxCYD0Or2Ty8

Following Shonda’s typical style, Scandal is drama-filled and chuck full of plot-twists. The series follows super-smart, super-fashionable, and ultra-lovable Olivia Pope as she fights against the evil that is Washington DC politics.

3. Parks and Recreation

Watched nothing but Parks and Recreation all day - Imgur

Need a little light-hearted, heartwarming comedy? Parks and Rec is sure to deliver lots of laughs and good feels. The series follows the life of Leslie Knope, a low-level government employee who cares more about her town than you care about anything. With each passing season, the cast continues to grow more lovable, and more complex.

2. Grey’s Anatomy

8eb1183fbe5c0f08443afc6cdd662980

This is a show that has no re-run limit. I’ve probably seen every episode a minimum of 3 times. We’re dragged through the trenches following the lives of multiple swoon-worthy doctors. They somehow defy all odds and survive a shit-ton of life threatening scenarios (SO MUCH DRAMA), fall in and out of love with each other, and build and breakdown friendships. It’s everything your little heart could desire.

1. Gilmore Girls

I'm an adult male (early 30's) who had to explain who the Gilmore Girls were to a buddy of mine (late 30's) after I had dropped a sick GG reference. Afterwards I was all like - Imgur

The perfect mix of comedy, drama, and romance! All delivered by a fast-talking, coffee-drinking, junk food-eating mother daughter duo who you can’t help but love. The series is as much a coming of age story, as it is a wtf do I do with my life series. Follow along, fall in love, and skip season six.
