Hello 2016

piggybackuse

Hi Friends! We’re one (work) week into 2016, and I’m feeling pretty damn good. I’m on day 6 of  Whole 30 and it’s going well. I thought I’d share a couple New Years resolutions. I know it sounds cliche, but even though it’s really just another month, there’s definitely a cleansing feeling that revolves around a ~new year~. Don’t you think? I also want to share some things I’m looking forward to in 2016!

Resolutions Goals:

giphy

  1. Complete the Whole 30 challenge
  2. Grow up, and stop making vodka diets my drink of choice
  3. Read 1 book a month. Not Harry Potter…
  4. MAKE more things (food, crafts, memories)
  5. Take candid pictures/bring my Nikon places
  6. Eat more veggies
  7. Assert myself #sorrynotsorry

Looking Forward To

goalz

  1. GETTING MARRIED!!!
  2. Honeymoon
  3. Feeling comfortable at my job (no longer a super newbie!)
  4. Summertime Chi, there’s no place like it
  5. Holidays (it’s pathetic, but I’m still sad holiday season 2015 is over).

Happy Birthday to Me: 23!

caKE

I’ve mentioned it a few times on here, but I am lucky enough to call myself a twin. There are a lot of perks to having a person who shares your DNA, your face, and YOUR BIRTHDAY! I don’t know if you all have realized it, but no one is quite as excited to celebrate your birthday as you (duh). BUT when you have a twin, they are equally as excited as you! Double the birthday, double the fun – ya know?! For this post I want to do some reflecting, and give you 23 life lessons I’ve learned in my lifetime.

  1. Stop comparing yourself to other people.
  2. Appreciate the things people do for you.
  3. Make new friends.
  4. Put an effort to keep in contact with the people you enjoy being around. It’s worth it.
  5. Try really hard to be optimistic. (forever working on this)
  6. Radiate good vibes and positive energy. ~channelling inner flower child~
  7. Take pleasure in little moments.
  8. Be silly.
  9. Learn constantly, about lots of things.
  10. Have an opinion.
  11. Speak your mind (but don’t be an asshole about it).
  12. Stop worrying about how much you weigh.
  13. But take care of your body. Run around, eat some veggies, and call it a day.
  14. Be nice.
  15. Keep problems in perspective. Lots of things aren’t as bad as they initially seem.
  16. Stop worrying, no one really has their shit figured out.
  17. Social media is a highlights reel.
  18. Take candid pictures.
  19. Clothing: invest in staples, bargain shop for trends.
  20. Don’t apologize for liking the things you like.
  21. Be open to new things.
  22. Go on adventures: big & small.
  23. Remember that relationships are the most important things of the human experience.

I hope this list can inspire you, if even just a little tiny bit. And I’m going to do my best to take my own advice. 🙂

Here’s to another great year!

Brunch Time Blazer

OOTDgood

Last weekend I wore this little number to a girlfriend’s birthday brunch. The combination of playful romper + boyfriend blazer makes for the perfect put-together look without sacrificing comfort.

We went to a really great spot called Wood. If you’re in the Chicago area I would totally recommend stopping by there on a Saturday or Sunday morning!

Hey hey hey, it’s Fridayyyy! I hope you guys had an excellent week. I had one day this week where I was on the edge of death (aka killer migraine), whenever I get migraines I always have ALL of the super shitty symptoms. I’m talking vomiting, dizziness, and sensitivity to light, TMI? I’m so pumped for this weekend, not because I’m doing anything, but because next week is THANKSGIVING! I can’t believe how fast time flies! Le cray.

1. Posh spice // I’m looking pretty put together in this drapey tunic, suede vest, and camel riding boots

2. All American Girl // This red white and blue ensemble screams americana. A blue and white striped dress, paired with a red fringe infinity scarf.

3. Liberal Arts Major // This asymmetrical free people top, leggings, and lace up boots bring me back to my college days as an advertising and psych major. Oh nostalgia.

4. Fall Fashion Mash-up // Olive green corduroys paired with a denim floral top, and a mega infinity scarf brings all the fall fashion trends into one look.

Which outfit is your favorite?

Weekend Recap Vol. 16

Monday?! But how…?

Well I hope all of you beautiful people had a fantastic weekend. The weather couldn’t have been better here in Chicago, 70 in November? I’ll take it!

* On Friday I took the fiance out for his birthday dinner! The big 2-4. We went to this amazing French restaurant in Lincoln Park, 3 courses of deliciousness.

* Saturday was super chill. We woke up late, watched a ton of TV, snuggled with our lil Luna, and wandered around the neighborhood all afternoon.

* Saturday night was as equally chill as Saturday: pizza, friends, and a movie night. Sometimes you just need to kick back and relax, and by sometimes I mean all the time.

* Sunday was as basic as a Sunday can be: grocery shopping, gym, fro-yo, and hanging with my BFF.

What’d you do this weekend?

Thoughts & Feelings: The Wedding Industry

weddingbellblues

This one goes out to all my past brides, brides-to-be, and anyone else who will be throwing a giant-ass party to celebrate the greatest human emotion – unconditional love.

One would think that such a pure and heartfelt event like a wedding would be mirrored by the industry that surrounds it. But you’d be wrong. Like really, really wrong. The entire industry is one HUGE up-charge. Venues clear well-over 5k, photographers are another 2.5k (minimum), and don’t even get me started on filming your special day. Want to feed your guests with tasty food? And maybe even give them a place to sit? – it’ll cost you about the same as a used car (if not more).

I’m only in the beginning stages of wedding planning, and I want it to be really fun! I want it to be a silly adventure, and I want the entire process to be like one longgg day dream. But, as the song goes “you can’t always get what you want.”

So please send good vibes, cash moneyz, or your services free of charge (looking at you photographers).

K thanks.

Weekend Recap Vol. 14

It’s November!!! That means holiday season is upon us *YAZZZZZ*! The Fiance and I were living in Madrid last year, and the holidays just weren’t the same overseas (obvi), so I’m extra super excited for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and my birthday! This weekend turned out to be the epitome of chill. It was much needed after the last few weekends of go-go-go.

* Fiance was out of town all weekend which meant it was just me and my main squeeze, Luna.

* I don’t know if it was because Logan was gone this weekend, but the cat was SUPER cuddly. Which, as you can see, resulted in a lot of cat pics #sorrynotsorry.

* I went to two Halloween parties dressed as a Jedi. Unfortunately that meant everyone wanted to steal my $3 light saber…

Did you do anything fun this weekend?

6 Truths about Committed Love

loveinthefield

1. They’re your BFF, cuddle buddy, secret keeper, and partner in crime all wrapped in one *hott* package

Having one person that fulfills basically every relationship requirement is the absolute best.

Screen Shot 2012-04-17 at 11.06.43 PM

2. You know what peak comfort with another human being feels like

You can be exactly who you are without jeopardizing the other person’s feelings for you. Feel free to speak your mind, belch in front of them, and share some weird thoughts and feelings, because regardless of what you say and do, this person is stuck with chose you.

flowers

3. You gotta take the bad with the good

I do some really annoying things #worrywart, my boyfriend also does some (less) annoying things. But love means putting these little annoyances aside so you can enjoy all the other qualities you completely adore about the other person.

loveydoveyCHI

4. The two of you are probably really weird when you’re together

Being so freakishly close comes with some repercussions. Since you’re super comfortable with each other that level of comfort doesn’t always mesh well with the general public. Sometimes I catch myself doing/saying really weird things to Logan that probably aren’t acceptable in public (e.g. greeting him by meowing #sorrynotsorry).

5. You’re really excited about your future with them

Talking about future jobs, dream houses, possible vacations, even kids. Yup, serious stuff comes up when you day dream about what the future holds for the two of you (I’m thinking adventures galore).

6. You know each other better than anyone else

You know their likes, dislikes, pet peeves, how to make them happy, and how to piss them off. It’s your responsibility to use that knowledge for good.

Weekend Recap Vol. 1

Screen Shot 2015-07-27 at 4.42.14 PM

This weekend I adventured to the suburbs of the suburbs for a wedding. Who doesn’t love a good wedding? The bride was beautiful, the decorations were on point, and there was an open bar, need I say more? I’m just going to make a little bulleted list of weekend wedding memories [twitter style].

  • The bride and groom met each other when they were in second grade, but didn’t actually start dating until they were in college #preshtodeath
  • The officiant’s breathing was SUPER distracting & very Darth Vaderish #lukeIamyourfather
  • This wedding marks my first-ever run in with an open bar #REGRETS
  • The party favors were as Midwest as can be #caramelandcheesepopcorn
  • The DJ never played my song request! #foreverbitter
